about

In the story of Olaf Tryggvason's strange, violent breed of Christianity, there are some parallels to be found between his faith and the one of his people.

The Northmen believed that the King of their gods, Odin, had hung himself from the World Tree, Yggdrasil, for nine long days. During that excruciating process, the One-Eyed sacrificed himself to himself and was renewed.

Rather similar to this is the story of Christ at the Crucifixion. The Christian God is said to have sent himself, in the form of his only son, to Earth. It's not an unfamiliar story to most in the Western world - Jesus of Nazareth soon finds himself on the cross, crucified like many other contemporary rebels like him in Roman Judea. A sacrifice is made once more - the Lord gives his son back to Heaven, in exchange for the redemption of man's sin.

In the eyes of Olaf Tryggvason and the people he ruled, these two stories were incredibly different. But in a modern view, they're not too unlike each other. The ruler of the heavens makes a painful choice, and offers himself up for the good of a greater cause.

King Olaf took the offering made to him by one god, and not the other. Will you take the offering made by deities from long ago?

lyrics

With chains he’s bound
And upside down
Our Father hangs from branches

He gave an eye
And sacrificed
All for a drop of knowledge

Born weak, bleed red
Same love, soon dead
So will you take The Offering?

Children still sin
And yet there’s hope for broken men
So will you take The Offering
A god has made to you?

The King adorned
In Crown of Thorns
The Son is nailed to crosses

He gave his life
Refused to die
To purify the masses
